Golden
Dragon Lake tour
The Golden Dragon Lake located in the basin between Dawu
Creek and Chaoyong Creek is formed by
plentiful natural springs. In former
times, the water from the lake was
retained to irrigate the farmland around
Dawu; therefore, it has been called
“Dawu Reservoir”. In recent years, the
township office has beautified it by
constructing surrounding path along the
lake for promenade and biking. The
full-blown Floss Silk trees on both
sides generate a natural green tunnel.
While wandering and rambling along the
path, you could enjoy the natural beauty
and reflections of the lake and
mountains. You will feel free in the
heart as well as happy and contented
since there are too many beautiful
scenes to be fully appreciated.

A variety of activities such as mountain-climbing, boating,
fishing, sightseeing, promenade,
barbecue, camping can be carried out in
the Golden Dragon Lake area. Buffaloes
and egrets can be seen from time to time
in the farmland and wetland nearby. The
primitive and secluded scenery is a good
site for leisure and relaxation.
Formosan
Pig Cave Recreational Farm
The residents who came here to bring the wasteland under
cultivation in early years frequently
found that Formosan pigs gathered and
dabbled in a fountainhead. Thus this
place was named Formosan Pig Cave and
turned out to be a recreational farm
nowadays.

The winter and spring are the
full-blown seasons of the plum blossom
in Formosan Pig Cave. The plums in the
orchard can be harvested in March and
April. Divers fruits are yielded in
summer, including jack fruit, pineapple,
custard apple, litchi and so forth. In
autumn, maples can be admired in the
crest line of “Mount Wen Pi” that
extended from the extremity of the
Central Mountains. So different are the
landscapes of four seasons in spite of
the small place. It's indeed rare and
commendable!
The farm is next to an extent of
ancient forest that contains numerous
categories of plants among which there
is no lack of unique flowers and rare
grasses. The natural botany is
exuberant; especially the “Millennial
Divine Banyan” that occupies more than
2000 square meters is spectacular and
sightworthy.

Dawu
National Forest Trail
Taitung County is known as the “backyard garden of Taiwan”
all the time and Dawu national forest
trail is situated at Dawu Township in
the south of the backyard garden. The
trail which starts by Dawu station of
Forestry Bureau belongs to circular road
with the total length of 1.3 kilometers.
The whole trail is paved with old
crossties that exhale light fragrance.
As this place is near the villages and
the elevation is not too high, the
influx of Dawu Creek, the Pacific Ocean,
the coast of Chialoshui, Taitung
downtown as well as the south link
highway can be overlooked from the
gazebo. Green Island and Lanyu can also
be viewed clearly in sunny days. Hence,
it is a favorite spot for the villagers.

This place belongs to hardwood forest ecosystem of low elevation.
Explanation boards were set up along the
trail to introduce the features of the
plants. The traces of flying birds,
butterflies, insects, spiders and
reptiles can be seen from time to time.
It’s a park full of life and vitality.
Not much energy will be consumed while walking on this small and
beautiful trail. The tourists could take
a rest in the graceful unadorned stone
table and chairs along the roadside if
they are tired or simply fall into
meditation and let the nature cleanse
the spiritual uproar. |
